Abstract

Bantul Regency as the biggest red onion producer area in Yogyakarta has a fluctuating average production but tends to decline. In carrying out its farming, onion farmers face internal and external problems. The purpose of this study was to determine internal and external factors that influence the development of production and determine the best alternative form of strategy that can be recommended for the development of shallot production in the production centers, specifically in Bantul Regency. The research method used for site selection is purposive with the consideration that the area is the center of onion production and the sample is carried out using the Snow ball method for 30 respondents. Furthermore, data analysis is carried out in three stages; 1) Input stage (IFE matrix and EFE matrix), 2) Matching stage (IE matrix and SWOT matrix), 3) Decision stage (QSPM matrix). The results showed that an important factor to succeed in the development of onion farming based on the matrix analysis of internal factors is capital (limited capital with a score of 0.465), based on the analysis of external factors is the weather and uncertain climate with a score of 0.400. Based on the IE matrix, after mapping out the total IFE weight score of 2.847 with a total EFE weight score of 3.087 the position of the shallot farming is in quadrant II, meaning that the shallot farming in Bantul is in the growing stage and will continue to grow. Based on the SWOT matrix and QSPM matrix analysis, a main strategy is recommended for the development of shallot farming in Bantul regency, namely planning a good planting to produce quality seeds independently in overcoming the high quality of seedlings (STAS = 5,389). Keywords: Shallots, SWOT Analysis, Development Strategy, Production Center, Bantul.
