Abstract

The purpose of the research was to describe the impact of Guided Teaching method to the mathematics representation ability and students’ adaptive intellectual, the impact of conventional method to the mathematics representation ability and students’ adaptive intellectual, and which method has more influence between Guided Teaching and conventional to the mathematics representation ability and students’ adaptive intellectual of eight grader students of SMP N 1 Pajangan. The research was quasi-experimental which used pretest posttest control group design. The research used two groups, they were experimental group and control group.
The population of the research include all of the students of grade eight of SMP N 1 Pajangan that consist of 150 students. The sample taken by purpossive sampling of two classes, they were class VIII A and VIII E. Class VIII A as experimental group implemented Guided Teaching, then class VIII E as control group implemented conventional method. The instrument of the research was test of mathematics representation ability and test of students’ adaptive intellectual ability. Manova test was used to find the impact of Guided Teaching method and conventional method to the mathematics representation ability and students’ adaptive intellectual. Then, independent sample t-test was used to identify which variable that more influence to the mathematics representation ability and students’ adaptive intellectual.
The result of the research showed that Guided teaching method influence to the mathematics representation ability and students’ adaptive intellectual, then conventional method influence to the mathematics representation ability and students’ adaptive intellectual. Guided Teaching method more influence than conventional method to the mathematics representation ability and students’ adaptive intellectual of eight grader students of SMP N 1 Pajangan.
