PREVALENCE OF LIVER FLUKE (Fasciola sp.) INFECTION
ON BEEF CATTLE IN YOGYAKARTA CITY

The research conducted to obtain the prevalence of liver fluke (Fasciola
sp.) infection on beef cattle in Yogyakarta City and to study whether there were
any related factors between each individual cattle (age, sex, and breed) in liver
fluke (Fasciola sp.) infection cases. The research applyed fecal samples from 122
beef cattle in Yogyakarta City which derived from several districts such as
Tegalrejo, Kotagede, Wirobrajan, Umbulharjo, and Mantrijeron to be examined
with sedimentation method. The observed variables were age, sex, and breed. This
research proves that the prevalence of liver fluke (Fasciola sp.) infection on beef
cattle in Yogyakarta was 47,54%. The prevalence based on sex was 20,68% of
male, while it reaches 55,91% of female. The prevalence by age showed that beef
cattle aged <1.5 years was 32.14%, on the other hand, the prevalence of beef
cattle aged >1,5 years was 52,12%. The prevalence by breed showed that PO
cattle was 52,08%, meanwhile, Simmental cattle was 30,76%. The conclusion is
the prevalence of liver fluke (Fasciola sp.) infection on beef cattle in Yogyakarta
City was 47,54%, where the fasciolosis did not affect by age and breed but
affected by sex.
