Abstract

This study aimed to obtain some factors causing the students difficulties
in gaining the minimum score of English proficiency test prior to their
graduation in one of the private Islamic university in Yogyakarta. The
sample of the study consisted of 63 students that were from different
major and faculty of its university. The researchers used qualitative
method. To achieve the objectives of the present study, the researchers
used questionnaire as an instrument for data collection. The results of
this study revealed that the students of this university face some
problems in obtaining the minimum score of English proficiency test
test required by the university or faculty. The first problem is the
information about the test and the description of the test that was
obtained by the students in the last semester of their study prior to their
examination of their graduation. Second, the students didn’t have proper
or adequate preparation. Third, there were problems coming from the
language center about the sources correlated with the EPT and also the
technical problem when delivering the test.
