AN ANALYSIS OF CODE SWITCHING AND CODE MIXING IN THE ENGLISH TEACHER'S UTTERANCES IN SMA N 1 SEYEGAN

The research aims to find the types of code switching and types of code mixing and to identify the reason of code switching and code mixing by English teacher in SMA N 1 Seyegan. The research was qualitative research through descriptive analysis. The data taken from the teaching and learning activity in class XI MIIA 1 academic year 2016/2017. The result of the research shows that English teacher switching and mixing the languages during teaching and learning process because of some reasons. The use of code switching occurs when English teacher should repeat and clarify the words/ sentence. then, the use of code mixing occurs when English teacher emphasize on some words/ sentence in order to make students understand the material easily. In addition, the reasons of code switching and code mixing used are talking about particular topic, repetition used for clarification, being emphatic about something, expressing group identity, and interjection
