Abstract

Advanced age is the advance stage of a process of human life which characterized
by an ability decrement of the body in order to adapt into enviromental stress (Efendi &
Makhfudli, 2009). Changes experienced by the elderly will affect the quality of life of the
elderly, but it is expected that elderly could maintain their quality of life and see themselves
positively (Banon, 2011). This study aims to look at the scores difference of the quality of life
of the elderly among the group involved in junggringan ngudoroso activity and the group that
were not involved and see the improvement of the quality of life of the elderly after following
the junggringan ngudoroso activity. This study was conducted in Yogyakarta. The character
of the study subjects were elderly aged between 60-90 years old, elderly whose quality of life
classified as medium and low after measured by WHOQOL-BREF scale, and the elderly who

still have a quite good hearing ability. The research design used in this study was a pretest-
posttest control group design. Research data collection used WHOQOL-BREF scale to look at

the scores of the quality of life of the elderly. Manipulation in this study is junggringan
ngudoroso activity. Based on the data analysis, a score difference founded in quality of life
of the elderly among the group involved in junggringan ngudoroso activity and the group that
were not involved (p = 0.000) and also there was an increment of the quality of life of the
elderly in the experimental group after following jungringan ngudoroso activity (p = 0.000).
