Abstract
Abstract
In formal school English is becoming one of the cumpulsory subjects. In learning English at school the students are expected to be able to acquire all of English skills, including speaking skill. To improve the students speaking skill, many schools establish extracurricular such as English club or English extracurricular as a platform for the students to express their ideas through spoken language, including SMP N 1 Pajangan. Unfortunately, there is no materials yet especially for developing students speaking skill in this school.
Based on the problem written above, this study is generally intended to design a set of English materials for English extracurricular in SMP N 1 Pajangan. Many components are considered in designing the English speaking materials such as structure, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and comprehension. Those components are learnt through expressions of language. This research purpose is to find: (1) the needs analysis of students learning of speaking; (2) the design of the speaking materials for English extracurricular of SMP N 1 Pajangan designed; (3) the data of the appropriateness of the design of speaking materials for SMP N 1 Pajangan.
In designing the materials, the researcher used Cultural Language Learning Approach (CLLA) approach for defining the topics. Those topics should enrich learners’ through knowledge acquisition about culture. Appropriately to the issues written above, this research used R&D (Research and Development) which is also called developmental research. The procedure used will be ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model of Welthy (2007). In the process of designing materials, the researcher involved focus group discussions (FGD) of the relevant stakeholders and two experts to judge the validity of the designed materials.
