Abstract

This research was aroused because of the score mark-up phenomena. Based on the aforesaid problem this research was generally aimed at analysis of avoidable score mark-up in English assessment in senior secondary school (a case study conducted at SMAN 1 Teladan Yogyakarta) and involving three variables that are: 1) the strategy of avoidable score mark-up; 2) manner of teachers assess students' English learning; 3) English teachers to assess students with low comprehension of English subjects deduction. This research belongs to case study that is qualitative research, then, it involves with senior secondary school i.e. SMAN 1 Teladan Yogyakarta as research setting. Then, the research instrument namely, questionnaire obtained from some students, interviews from 2 English teachers, and documentations i.e. raport document, School Examination , National examination which is tested to any graders, English teachers and non-English Language teacher. In this case, the result of the research has research validity = 0.751 that means the questionnaire is reliable and valid because > 0.60 based on validation table. the average of National Examination is about 82.00 that it is more than the School Examination is 66.78 that means the phenomenon of score mark-up does not occur. Furthermore, this research focuses on motivation to do formative assessment and assessment for learning. Remedial teaching and remedial tests have been a solution to enhance graders’ motivation. The effectiveness of the Layanan Klinis to be solution for lower students still needs enhancement of the method.
