Abstract

In Indonesia, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic has penetrated the education
sector. The policy issued by the central government is to stop all educational
institutions for online learning. This study aimed to analyze the students’ perceptions
of the use of video types in online learning at a private university in Yogyakarta. To
find out students' responses to the types of videos applied in their online classes, the
researchers used mixed-method research; qualitative and quantitative research. This
study involved 25 students who took the Speaking Professional Context and Paragraph
Writing courses. For data collection, researchers used observations, questionnaires and
interviews. The results of this study indicated a medium qualification level of students’
responses with 52% as the value obtained. However, the data also showed that internet
connection problems cause students to understand during virtual meetings. On the
other hand, they could perform well in class by asking for further clarification on the
material through the What's App group. The researcher also asked the lecturers about
the types of media and videos commonly used in online learning. Lecturers answered
using Zoom, E-learning, and video assessments. This means that the use of video
media, E-learning, and task collection in the form of videos can be applied by lecturers
to teach speaking and writing classes for one semester
