Abstract
Relationship between humans is inevitable. Hence, humans have an
inherent desire to be close to other people to connect and build
relationships. This research aimed to find out the types close relationship
between the characters in Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory” based on the 14 principle of close relationship. The descriptivequalitative method was used and merely focused on the analysis of textual
data. The data were in the form of description of utterances, dialogues
used among the characters, words, phrases, and also sentences found in
the novel. The data were taken from the other sources in the form of
books, articles, dictionaries, and sites which are related to the study. The
result shows that the relationship of Charlie and Willy Wonka meet all
the four set-structures. In terms of the dependence on one another, the
feeling or behavior to their experiences. Both Charlie and Willy Wonka
perform integration, evaluation, instrumentally, standards and
alternatives.
