STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS TOWARDS BBC LEARNING ENGLISH APPLICATION AS SUPPORTING MEDIA TO COMPREHEND READING TEXT

This research aimed at finding the students' perception towards BBC
learning English application as supporting media to comprehend reading texts in
the System Information (SI) Department at a Private University in Yogyakarta. By
using a mixed method approach, this research used questionnaire and interview to
collect the data with thirty-five (35) students participating. By distributed the
questionnaire and interview were find out the students‟ perception on the use of
BBC Learning English Application and the benefits on the use of BBC Learning
English Application. Based on the results revealed that 97.28% students stated
that BBC Learning English is a very good application in improving their English
skills and it has characters in the form of contains videos, contains reading scripts
related to the topics provided, contains vocabulary, and contains quizzes. BBC
Learning English provides interesting programs and it provides a variety of
interesting and up-to-date topics. With the programs provided by BBC Learning
English as much as; Grammar, Vocabulary, Pronunciation, Daily practice, and
more. BBC Learning English is a suitable medium for learning English, especially
in improving students' reading skills. 97,85% students stated that the topics
provided in BBC Learning English Application are varied so that they can
increase reading interest. BBC Learning English provides quizzes in every
content. The quiz is very helpful for students in understanding each video and
script that is presented so that they are careful to work on the quiz. Finally, the
students show their positive respond towards BBC Learning English that it was
really helps students in thinking critically because they read and do every quiz
provided in it.
