Kandungan Gula Tanaman Sorghum Bicolor (L) Moech Varietas Kawali Pada Berbagai Umur Tanaman Dan Analisis Pati Bijinya

Sorghum bicolor (L) Moech variety of Kawali is one of the many types sweet sorghum which characterized by high
sugar content in juice of stem. Each of part of plant has usage; the leaf and stalk used to feed; juice of stem used to
produce sugar and bioethanol; and the seed as a feed or a food. This reseach was conducted in the experimental garden
and laboratory of chemistry Mercu Buana University from March until July 2011. The objectives of this research were to
determine sugar content of sorghum stem at various plant age and to determine yield and starch content of seed at
physiological maturity. The experiment was designed in single factor arranged in Randomized Completely Block Design
(RCBD) with three blocks as replications. The treatments were the harvest age of 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, and 110 days after
planting. The results showed that the stem juice sugar content at age of 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, and 110 days after planting
are 4.48% w/v, 6.64% w/v, 6.99% w/v, 11.29% w/v, 9.55% w/v, 8.83% w/v, and 8.86% w/v respectively. The maximum
sugar content is at the age of 80 days after planting, 11,29% w/v and yield 299,92 grams of stalk. At age of 110 days, seeds
reach physiological maturity, contain 55.26% w/w starch and 11.14% w/w water and the yield is 157,6 grams seeds per
plant or 2,1 tons per hectar.
