SLANG WORDS ANALYSIS ON POST MALONE’S SONG LYRICS “WOW”

The use of slang words today's is an important feature in society. Not only
did it use in daily conversation, but it also becomes a part of the song.
Slang words are usually used in the song for many reasons. The analyze
was done by using Partridge theory about types of slang and Yanchun and
Yanhong theory about the function of slang words. This research used
descriptive qualitative method. in which the data were taken from the
song lyrics entitled “WOW” by Post Malone. Based on the result, here are
six types of slang words in Post Malone’s song lyrics, they are; (a) slang
in publicity, (b) slang in theater, (c) public house slang, (d) slang in art,
(e) society slang and (f) slang in medicine. There are 8 from 14 slang
words in the lyrics that are considered as the pursuit of self-identity
function. Moreover, there 3 slang words included in the emotive feeling
of slang users and 3 slang words to achieve politeness. Slang words can
be used in daily conversation for today’s society and trigger people to
learn English. Moreover, it becomes a source for students to be more
creative in using language, in formal or non-formal occasion.
