Abstract
This study aims to examine the potential effectiveness of using
YouTube video as a teaching tool specifically to enhance elementary
school students’ vocabularies.
This study was conducted to fifth the graders of elementary school
in Yogyakarta. The sample of the study consisted of 60 students who were
from fifth grade from one of elementary schools in Yogyakarta.
The research was quasi-experimental with randomized pretestposttest control group design. To achieve the objectives of study, the
researcher used observation data, pre-test and post-test scores as an
instrument for data collection. This research employed two groups; namely
an experimental and control group. This was to see which group was
effective in vocabularies mastery after having the treatments. The first was
control group and the second group was given treatment by using
YouTube videos. Both of the groups were instructed to write describing
people. The YouTube video treatment is more effective with the sig (p) ≤
0.05.The result of the study shows that there is significantly different
between the students who describe people after being taught by using
YouTube videos.The result of this research showed that this media was
appropriate for teaching learning English, especially vocabulary for fifth
graders.
