Nowadays some of the students in elementary school getting difficulty to looking some ideas in learning English. The real phenomenon is the students’ difficulty in improving their integrated skills in English, especially listening and speaking. When they were confused with the lesson so they not interested with the lesson and also the teacher. Then, it will increase the bad attitude of students, for example joking with another friends in the classroom when learning, they also used impolite language in communicate with their teacher. As we know that based on curriculum, in the learning process teacher must be put some materials that related about moral value. Some of the students’ book already explained about the moral value. But, it become useless when the teacher delivered the material without any explanations about moral value. So it needed appropriate technique to deliver material that contain with moral values.
This research aimed at finding the information on whether Story Completion Technique more effective than another method in improving students’ moral value in integrated skills. The researcher also gives a situation where the students felt enjoy in learning process. The researcher also analyzed how to embed moral value to improve the integrated skills of listening and speaking. The approach of this study is quantitative. The subjects of this research are fifth grade students of SDN 1 Pesawahan. This research used action design in which the researcher collecting data from pre-test until post-test from action and control group, then gave action treatment to CAR (Classroom Action Research) group and gave control treatment to control group. The difference between pre-test and post-test will be statistically significant. It is indicates that story completion has increased the students’ moral value in integrated skills.
The researcher used Classroom Action Research that contained with four stages for each cycle, there are planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The result showed that there was a significant improvement from the pre-test and posttest. The mean score of pre-test was 62.5 while the result of post-test of cycle 1 was 63 and the result of post-test of cycle 2 was 77. The result of interview and questioner showed that story completion technique could improve the students’ motivation and interest in integrated skills of listening and speaking using English. In brief, story completion succeed not only in improving fifth graders’ integrated skills of listening and speaking but also students’ moral. As recommendation, story completion could be a good technique to teach integrated skills especially listening and speaking.
